Monsters in Rhune: Dawn of Twilight

Monsters in Rhune: Dawn of Twilight

Midgard is a dangerous world filled with cannibalistic barbarians, thrall-bound giants, and strange clockworks. While most of these are limited to specific regions, some wander wider paths, threatening any and all that cross them. Accordingly, most of the monsters found in the Pathfinder® Roleplaying Game Bestiary™ will fit nicely in the setting. A select few, however, aren’t a good fit for Midgard. Dragons, for instance, don’t exist on Midgard (only the world serpent, Midgardsormur and its spawn –wyvern – comes close). Other creatures, like nagas, simply don’t fit the feel of Rhune: Dawn of Twilight. While GMs are welcome to use whatever monsters they like, the following creatures are better suited for realms beyond Midgard:

Aboleth, ankheg, ape (gorilla and dire), archon (all), bebilith, bulette, choker, chuul, cloaker, couatl, demon (marilith), devil (bone), dinosaur (all), dragon (all), dragon turtle, drider, froghemoth, genie (all), gibbering mouther, girallon, half-dragon (any), intellect devourer, lamia, lich, lizardfolk, mantis (giant), medusa, mimic, mohrg, mummy, naga (all), neothelid, oni (all), pegasus, pseudodragon, purple worm, rakasha, retriever, roc, roper, rust monster, salamander, sahuagin, shoggoth, skum, slug (giant), sphinx, tarrasque, tengu, unicorn, vampire, vargouille, xill, and xorn.

Beyond Midgard, the Great Tree offers endless potentials for unique and alien encounters. Many of the monsters omitted above might be added back in these planes, but even then, GMs are likely to pull away from the feel of Rhune: Dawn of Twilight. In addition, the following creatures are excellent additions to any campaign set in Rhune: Dawn of Twilight.
